We look forward to having in-person programs soon. In the meantime, sign up for our mailing list for information about online programming.

Our weekly programs delight, inspire, and engage curious pre-school aged children. Each program features different areas of interest and each session is structured to teach basic school readiness skills like listening, sharing, following steps and instructions and more, while providing opportunities for deep engagement and creative self-expression.

We invite inquisitive minds to stop by our Tuesday morning mini-labs for fun and easy experiments and hands-on demonstrations: magnets, bubbles, ice, water, air, metal; even the greatest scientists started with simple experiments and observations.

These special chemistry, engineering, and physics workshops are designed just right for the pre-school age child. Each session starts with finding the science questions, an introduction of the tools and procedures followed by safety instructions.

After about 10-20 minute guided inquiry the lab ends with 10-15 minute open exploration time and share-out of observations and discoveries.

Recommended for ages 3-5 and free with admission.

Every Wednesday little artists can experiment with new, fun painting tools, bright colors and practice their sequencing, spatial reasoning, fine motor, and problem-solving skills important for pre-reading and pre-math!

Each session starts with a short demonstration of the project and tools followed by free exploration and creating time guided and encouraged by our staff and volunteers.

Recommended for ages 2-5 and free with admission.

Budding naturalists and biologists can go on nature excursions without ever leaving the museum. Get up close to some of MDM’s amazing live animals, pelts, claws, shells, bones, rocks and more.

Each session starts with an introduction of the specimen or natural science discovery followed by guided gentle exploration and lots of time for science conversations. Occasionally, we will have the appropriate make and take activities to end the session.

Recommended for ages 3-5 and free with admission.

Friday mornings are for shaping, smooshing, rolling, squeezing, and pounding all kinds if play doughs and clays and making and creating with fun, surprising materials!

Each session starts with an introduction of the materials and tools followed by self-directed sculpting, shaping and making time. Little artists can take their creation home with wrapping materials we provide.

Recommended for ages 2-5 and free with admission.

My Day to Play is all about providing a comfortable environment for children on the Autism Spectrum to learn and grow and to give families who face similar challenges a place to connect and encourages learning and exploration in a safe environment.

We will be closed to the public and provide Sensory Discovery Boxes and Gross Motor Sensory Play. Quiet space will available as well as different sessions of animal one-on-one and a special science or art exploration activity, in addition to free play on all 3 floors of the museum!
